If the Ptolemy webserver ("bennett") is hanging, it will need a reboot. To reboot bennett remotely rather than at the console, log on to newton.eecs.berkeley.edu, open a shell on bennett and execute the following commands: Logging in as root facilitates shutting bennett down without spawning lots of processes. Bennett may be running out of resources making it incapable of handling an ssh connection and su simultaneously.
The 'display-time' command is issued to keep the connection active.
The sync;sync;reboot command can now be executed successfully from the shell on newton, which eventually results in a reboot of bennett.
