MailingListProblemsWithAddressesHostedByGoogle

Sadly, if you send email to a mailing list and read your email at an address hosted by Google, then you will not receive a copy of your own email unless you cc or bcc yourself.

This is called de-duping and while it is in the best interests of Google, it is not in our best interests because it means that when email is sent the a mailing list, then the sender has no easy way of knowing if the email went out because the cc or bcc does not use the mailing list system, it goes via a separate route.

One possible workaround is to add a second email address to the mailing list. To do this, email Christopher.

In the longer term, this issue has been discussed on UC Berkeley's Micronet mailing list

The bottom line from Bernie Rossi at Berkeley is that we are in a three year contract and that the issue has been raised with Google.</p>

On 11/4/13, Bernie wrote:

Basically, they said it was a "feature", to assist in preventing cluttering messages. They made the same suggestion that others did; to CC yourself on the message.
I wrote back and told them this did not solve the issue, since this did not let the user know if their posting had truly been posted to the list.
Their response was "The current Google Apps infrastructure will continue to be updated and I will submit a Feature Request on behalf of your domain to ensure our development looks at your case for new ideas."
As for the renewal, we are in our 2nd year of a 5 year contract.

One possible solution would be to host email with a vendor such as Sonic.net that takes customer support more seriously.
