Getting Started with Accessors

To experiment with accessors, you can either:

  1. use the browser host online,
  2. download and install Ptolemy II, or
  3. check out a copy of the accessors repository.

The first approach does not require installing any software. Your browser is all you need. You can browse the accessor library and execute a few of the simpler examples. The second approach requires installing a fairly large software system, but then provides a rich swarmlet development environment. The third approach gives you a copy of both the Browser Host and a Node Host, which runs interactively under Node.js, a JavaScript engine from Google.

Ptolemy II provides an application called Cape Code that includes a graphical editor for swarmlets and automatically checks out the accessors repository, providing the latest accessor library. After installing Ptolemy II, see the Ptolemy II accessor tutorial.

At this time, the Cape Code host is the most complete. It has implementations of all required and optional modules that have been defined and can therefore execute all accessors in the TerraSwarm accessor library.
